It is helpful to have a few warm ups ready for your group when you meet for your simulation. If your group meets early in the morning or right after lunch, you might notice that everyone is sluggish and not ready to be active. Or you may have a group that still doesn’t really know each other very well. Having a few activities that will get everyone up and moving or get to know each other better can create a better chance of a simulation with everyone engaged and ready to take part. These warm ups are not simulations; they are merely a tool to help everyone loosen up and get ready to role play.
Groups that are brand new to one another or have not met together recently will benefit from warm up exercises. These activities can allow participants to get to know one another, provide some needed transitioning from real life to role playing, and create a safe climate for the simulation.
Established groups that have met together for simulations in the past might not need warm ups, but may enjoy them at the beginning of their simulation to get ready. Some activities will become old favorites for groups, and your group will look forward to using the same warm up activity repeatedly. Warm ups act as a signal that your simulation is about to begin.
