I Love the Idea of Audiobooks

Listening to books means that I can accomplish other tasks, like laundry or dishes, while enjoying a good book. It seems like a perfect match. There's one tiny flaw in this logic. I live with other people. I have trained my children from a young age that a book in my hands means I am occupied, but when I listen to audiobooks they seem to take that as an invitation that I am ready to listen. Which means they come talk to me. Talking with my children is important to me, so I turn off the books.

Sometimes I can get my children interested in the book I am listening to and we will listen together. When I have a lot of driving to do, I am able to listen to audiobooks more. We have quite a collection, because we joined Audible several years ago. Between the six people in our family, we have chosen a wide variety of books by choosing a book or two a month. Out of everyone in the family, I actually listen to my books the least. My husband, who commutes to work, listens the most. Driving time is an excellent time to utilize audiobooks.

If you drive to work or spend a lot of time doing tasks that do not require you to be mentally engaged, I would highly recommend using audiobooks. I love Audible because we can access the books from anywhere and we can never lose them. And someday, I will start making it through more of the audiobooks we own.
