Ancient Egypt Comes to Life

This is one of our mentor moms in our co-op, Leadership Connections. Doesn't she look fabulous? Also, how amazing is it that she made a sarcophagus? I had the privilege of being in the room during part of her class and our Love of Learners were able to take turns getting in the sarcophagus. This mentor mom is a great example of inspiring. As she has embraced her topic, she exudes enthusiasm about history to the children that she is mentoring. They were sitting, enthralled, learning from her about Ancient Egypt and the people who lived long ago. She brought history to life, and I know that the children in her class will remember this particular day for a long time. This mentor mom was able to inspire them to listen to what she was teaching in addition to involving them in some hands on learning.

This is the power of inspiring. The mentor was excited and interested in the topic, and she thought of how she could reach her class. She met them at their level, and was able to infuse fun and facts into their experience.

This is also the power of working with a group in a co-op or commonwealth setting. Each mentor mom brings her own unique flavor to the class that she teaches. She connects in her own way to the material, choosing what she will cover, and she focuses on the group of children she is mentoring. Some really amazing things can happen when you come together in a group and allow mentors to touch the lives of a group of children.

Not every mentor in a group will dress up for class, and even those that do may not do it every time we meet. Each class will be a unique experience and each mentor will use their own learning and knowledge to help them approach the classes. This synergy is part of the power of the group setting.

What can you do to inspire those you mentor?
